HALE HOUSE INQUIRY WIDENS The state attorney general's office said yesterday it would investigate allegations that donations to Hale House, the Harlem children's shelter, were used to shore up a failing off-Broadway musical produced by the husband of the charity's president. The Daily News reported yesterday that Dr. Lorraine E. Hale and her husband, Jesse DeVore, funneled $500,000 to Mr. DeVore's show, "Faith Journey," which was based on the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Both Dr. Hale and Mr. DeVore, the charity's public relations director, agreed earlier this week to resign from Hale House, and a new interim board of directors was named. It is expected to name Edna Wells Handy, a former general counsel for the city's Health and Hospitals Corporation, as the charity's interim executive director.
