Amália Rodrigues Fødselsdag, fødselsdato
Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999) var en portugisisk fadoartist som var landets ledende utøver i sjangeren fra 1940. Hun fikk kallenavnene «Fadodronningen» (portugisisk: Rainha do Fado) og «Portugals sjel» på grunn av sin popularitet og sine kunstneriske evner. I Portugal var hun kjent ganske enkelt som Amália. Rodrigues var kjent for sin intense, dramatiske og forfinede fremføring. På 1950-1960-tallet populariserte hun vokal ornamentering. Hun utvidet den tradisjonelle fadoen med innslag spanske og mexikanske rytmer, og hun brukt samtidslyrikk som grunnlag for sangene. Hun opptrådte ofte i sort antrekk med en elegant fremtoning og sang typisk med hodet kastet bakover. Rodrigues er en av Portugals mestselgende utøvere, hun spilte inn 170 album og gjennomførte omfattende turneer.
Arven etter at Amalia er blitt ført videre av blant andre Mariza Reis Nunes og Ana Moura. Blant andre Dulce Pontes og Cesaria Evora fremhevet innflytelse fra Rodrigues. Rodrigues liv fremstilles i spillefilmen Amália (2008) regissert av Carlos Coelho da Silva og med Sandra Barata Belo i tittelrollen.
