Except for conflicting reports from Washington relating to the possibility of a new national communications policy, there was little in the news yesterday upon which market traders could base operations. Even with respect to that bit of news, they proceeded with the utmost caution.

Departing from what Wall Street has been speaking of for several days as a "true bull market pattern," stocks reflected yesterday a tendency on the part of traders to wait and watch. The fact that the government's price for gold was permitted to remain at $34.01 an ounce when there had been predictions of a resumption of the advance, may have discouraged speculators for the rise in stocks and commodities.
