Rev H C McCall, ed bd chmn of NY Amsterdam News, resigns on Nov 1 in conflict arising out of paper's endorsement of Repub NYC Finance Admr R Lewisohn for Controller; had previously said weekly would endorse Dem candidate NYS Sen H J Goldin and that ed to that effect, which did not appear with other endorsements because of 'last min delay,' would appear in current issue; Goldin endorsement was replaced, however, with 1 for Lewisohn; paper's publisher C B Jones says he was out of town when McCall made decision to endorse Goldin; says that when he found out about decision he felt 'uncomfortable'; McCall had said that Lewisohn had not responded to numerous attempts to reach him while Goldin had been positive on 'critical' issues so he 'went with Goldin'; Jones says he reached Lewisohn, eliminating issue of 'nonresponse'; says that that response coupled with Lewisohn's 'extensive background in finance' caused him to make 'unilateral' decision to endorse Lewisohn; remarks that he's 'the guy that's on the line'
