Marous, the company's new chairman and chief executive officer, and Paul E. LEAD: Volkswagen United States, a subsidiary of Volkswagen A.G., said it had raised suggested retail base prices by an average of 5.6 percent, or $377, on its Fox models, effective immediately. The base price of Volkswagen's Fox two-door model will increase to $6,290, from $5,990; its four-door GL model to $7,280, from $6,890, and its wagon to $7,380, from $6,990.

LEAD: The Primerica Corporation said the sale of its direct marketing subsidiary, Looart Press Inc., to De Luxe Check Printers Inc. had been completed, resulting in an after-tax gain of about $35 million for the fourth quarter of 1987. The proceeds from the previously announced sale of Looart and its operating subsidiary, Current Inc., totaled about $180 million, or about $150 million after taxes, Primerica said.

Plum Resumes Bidding for Holly

LEAD: The New York investor group Plum Associates, which appeared to have lost a takeover bid for the Holly Sugar Corporation to the Imperial Sugar Company, re-emerged as a suitor. In its third proposal in two weeks, Plum Associates, a group headed by Peter R. Harvey of Illinois, is now offering to acquire 60 percent of the company's stock at $92.50 a share, or $61.5 million, instead of the previous cash price of $85 a share, or $56.5 million.
