CBS News Says Team Broke Rule

The CBS News journalists who recorded dramatic scenes of Israeli soldiers beating two Arab captives in the occupied West Bank last week violated company rules by giving unedited videotape footage to the Israeli Army, network officials said yesterday. But they said the journalists had made ''an innocent mistake'' and would not be reprimanded.

The Navistar International Corporation, the truck manufacturer that returned to profitability in 1987 after a string of losses, said it hopes for a small increase in profits this year despite the rising cost of steel and labor. Neil Springer, chairman of the Navistar International Transportation Corporation, the Chicago-based company's chief operating unit, said plans were under way to expand its trucking and parts businesses with acquisitions in related industries. But Mr. Springer conceded to financial analysts in Los Angeles that Navistar, the former International Harvester Corporation, faces numerous difficulties, including litigation and high borrowing costs.

Du Pont Cleanup

I. du Pont de Nemours & Company will pay $39 million to clean up ditches, lagoons and other groundwater sites contaminated by hazardous waste that seeped from its Chamber Works plant here, a company official said. The cleanup, part of an administrative consent order with the state Department of Environmental Protection, was described as the largest settlement by one company for one location in the United States.

AGS to Acquire C3

AGS Computers Inc. said it had agreed in principle to acquire C3 Inc., a computer systems integration company based in Herndon, Va., for $15.75 a share, or about $157.5 million. C3 designs, assembles and maintains computer systems to solve the automation needs of the Federal Government. AGS, based in Mountainside, N.J., is involved in computer automation of telecommunication and computer systems.

Chrysler Outlines Europe Sales Plan

Announcement Of Computer Due

Apple Computer Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc. will announce on Thursday a specially configured version of the Macintosh II personal computer for artificial intelligence applications, industry sources said today. The machine will include a microprocessor designed to run LISP, a computer language used in artificial intelligence development, and is expected to be sold by Texas Instruments for less than $20,000.

MCA 'Poison Pill'

In an apparent effort to block a takeover threat posed by the developer Donald J. Trump, MCA Inc. tightened the trigger on its takeover defense, making it effective if any shareholder acquires 10 percent of its stock. The original plan, which was adopted last July, would have taken effect when a 20 percent stake was acquired. The poison pill is intended to make an acquisition prohibitively expensive.

G.M. to Sell Plant

The General Motors Corporation has agreed to sell its Fairfield automobile parts stamping plant to Cynba International Inc. for an undisclosed amount. Cynba, headed by an automotive executive, Anthony Barclae, would continue operating the plant, G.M. officials said.
