NEW PLAN FOR EXECUTIVE LIFE INSURANCE POLICYHOLDERS

A new rehabilitation plan for the insolvent Executive Life Insurance Company would provide 90 percent of policyholders with 100 percent of the values of their policies, California officials said yesterday. The plan, which would replace an earlier plan rejected by a state Court of Appeal decision, would maintain insurance coverage for Executive Life policyholders and offer benefits consistent with the original contracts. They would be provided by the Aurora National Life Assurance Company, the successor to Executive Life..

Ford Cuts Prices of Big Cars

The Ford Motor Company is cutting the prices of its large Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans by about $3,500 on certain well-equipped models. Ford cut the price of its Crown Victoria by 15.6 percent, to $17,945, for a model that includes air-conditioning, power windows and door locks, cruise control and a driver's air bag. Prices of the Grand Marquis were cut about 15 percent, to $19,990 for the GS model and $20,850 for the more luxurious LS model.

Intel Patent Suit Rebuffed

ULSI Systems Inc. said a Federal appeals court in Washington had overturned a patent infringement claim by the Intel Corporation. ULSI, a small, closely held chip maker based in San Jose, said the court on Friday upheld its right to use cross-licensing agreements with Intel in the manufacturing of integrated circuits designed by ULSI.

Vote to Strike McDonnell

Machinists at the McDonnell Douglas Corporation's St. Louis plants have rejected a three-year contract offer and authorized a strike to start early Friday. Members of International Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837, which represents about 7,500 McDonnell Douglas workers, gathered this morning at the Arena in St. Louis for the contract ratification and strike votes. The union's bargaining committee had recommended voting for of a strike.

Time Warner Cellular Plan

Time Warner Telecommunications, a division of Time Warner Inc., said yesterday that it would build and test a wireless personal communications system which uses Qualcomm Inc.'s digital cellular technology. The announcement is the first time Qualcomm's code division multiple access technology will be used in a cable network. Time Warner Cable said it would install and test the technology in its "full service network" in Orlando, Fla., early next year.

GlenFed Plan To Increase Capital Level

Glendale Federal Bank, the main unit of GlenFed Inc., a troubled California savings and loan company, said today that it planned to dissolve its holding company and raise between $357 million and $425 million in capital. Glendale Federal, the nation's fifth-largest savings and loan, has been operating under orders from the Office of Thrift Supervision to increase its capital levels significantly; it could be seized by regulators if it does not meet the requirements. Plan Isn't a Cure But Glendale said today that even if its latest plan was carried out the company would not meet the Federal capital requirements and that it planned to ask the Federal regulators for more time.

Big Contract Given MCI By Insurers

The MCI Communications Corporation said today that it had received its largest contract ever, $1 billion over five years to provide telecommunications services to Insurance Value Added Network Services, the insurance industry's electronic communications network. MCI, the country's No. 2 supplier of long-distance services, will provide domestic and international voice, data, imaging and video conferencing services to the more than 400 members of the network, which serves property, casualty, life and health insurance companies. Industry Is Heavy User "With this announcement, MCI will greatly increase its penetration of the insurance industry, an industry that relies increasingly on telecommunications to transact business, both domestically and internationally," said Jonathan Crane, president of MCI National Accounts.

Dollar Slips Below 105 Yen, Then Inches Up in Tokyo

The dollar briefly fell below 105 Japanese yen in Tokyo early today, hitting still another record low after declining sharply yesterday. Traders said the Japanese central bank intervened again today in the currency markets in an effort to support the dollar.
