Joseph Romano of Long Island is sentenced to life in prison for his plot to pay hit man $40,000 to behead judge and prosecutor who had worked case in which he was sentenced in federal court in Brooklyn on criminal fraud conviction; Romano was in jail when he made arrangement with two hit men who turned out to be working for government.

New York Police Officer Grantley Bovell testifies at final court trial resulting from Occupy Wall Street protests in city; trials began in September 2011 and eventually led to more than 2,600 arrests; of those cases, about 700 were dismissed and an additional 1,355 placed in adjournment, meaning those arrested will not have criminal records as long as they stay out of trouble in near future.
